This shop ROCKS! Joe and Travis worked with me in inspecting and repairing the 4R70W transmission I transplanted into my 1956 Ford F-100 pickup. They took the time to explain the problems the discovered and were able to make the repairs quickly and properly. I was impressed on how well they took care of my truck while they had it. They brought it into the shop when it looked like it was going to rain, and in the evenings for safe keeping. I is refreshing to find a shop that has the same enthusiasm I have for classic vehicles. Highly recommended.

I'm old enough to remember paging through the Yellow Pages in search for services, but today's equivalent is online lists, such as Yelp and other such apps. I came across California Transmissions and their reviews were stellar that I went with them solely based on them. I was worried that I had transmission issues with my Jeep and upon calling in on a Monday, Joe the owner told me that he had a packed schedule, but he sensed my urgency and shoehorned me in on that Thursday. Onboarding by technician Mike was easy-peasy when I got there and left my vehicle in their capable hands. By early afternoon, Joe was on the phone telling me that after test driving it, he suspected it was an O2 sensor issue and that he'd start with replacing that. By the next day, my Jeep was ready to pick up and it drove well. Now, while we don't know if that is the final fix, Joe worked diligently in diagnosing the issue with sincere thoughts in mind of finding the best and economical solution. I am well aware that he could have escalated costs with spendy investigations and what not. My point is, this is an honest establishment, fine folks who strive to calm your nerves with clear communication and up-front discussions. I never once got the creeps of someone trying to take advantage of you while the chips are down. Their charges were reasonable. And that's the bonus of the online experience vs. the Yellow Pages, that you get testimonials that give you reassurances that a random shop will be straight-up and worth your while. I certainly recommend these folks who work with honest intentions.

Joe is great! He explains every step of the process. They were very quick with the repairs! Usually you'd expect to be out for over a week. I went in on a Tuesday and was driving out on a Friday. I would 100% recommend them for all of your transmission needs!

They worked on my son's 2017 Ford Fiesta ST, replacing the clutch, which is located inside the transmission bell housing and requires removing the entire transmission. They explained everything clearly, were completely honest throughout the process, and their pricing was very fair. As a mom and a woman, I really appreciated how comfortable they made me feel. I never felt talked down to or taken advantage of -- just genuine professionalism and transparency. We originally came here because another reputable repair shop recommended them for this job, and now I understand why. The service, communication, and quality of work were excellent. California Transmissions of Orangevale has been my go-to shop for years. My most recent visit was nothing short of excellence. My Jeep suddenly developed a transmission leak which was diagnosed as a seal. Since the transmission had to come out anyway, it was recommended that all the seals be replaced. This is what separates California Transmission from the other shops. They conducted an inspection of the internals of my transmission and reported that it looked great and didn't need any rebuild or other services. It would have been an easy convince that additional work be recommended. However, this shop is extremely ethical, honest and customer focused. Each time I have ever taken one of my vehicles to California Transmissions, they have never had any surprise "add-ons" that weren't fully explained in advance. I've done enough business with them to trust Joe and his team to only do what is necessary and it's always done right the first time and at a very reasonable cost. I highly recommend this shop to anyone looking for an honest, efficient and reasonably priced transmission repair shop.

I have had the pleasure of working with this shop 3 times now. 1--My newer car was experiencing transmission issues and the dealer wanted to charge me over $10,000. Joe-through emails and phone calls helped me get the dealership/GM to pay for the transmission replacement. So thankful!! He saved me thousands of dollars. 2. Due to the above experienced I took my daughter's jeep to the shop when she needed to have her older jeep transmission rebuilt. Very honest and willing to go the extra mile to explain needs and cost. Very patient and understood our need to wait a bit to get the repairs. Also, not like most shops Joe is willing to really look at what your car needs as opposed to looking for things that he could charge you for (much like the dealership). We didn't even think of going anywhere else for the work based on how Joe and his team handle themselves and treat customers with respect and honesty. Once they started the work it was done well and timely. I would trust this team with any of my cars. 3. The first car listed was having issues again. Joe assessed the transmission which after about 38,000 had gone out again. He helped me again to make sure the manufacturer/dealership helped get this covered under warranty. Joe had no stake in the deal. Any other shop may have just had the work done through them to make the money, but not this one. I so appreciate the honesty and integrity of this shop. I would recommend this shop to anyone needing transmission repair and/or assessment. Everyone looks for a shop that will treat them fairly and has their best interest in mind. Even though Joe had to break some bad news to us about our car, he went the extra mile to try to give us as many solutions as possible. It's not a requirement to show empathy in his line of business but he went out of his way to do so. I recommend his shop for anyone looking for an honest opinion on their car that's not focused on getting your money.

I was convinced I had a blown transmission on my sprinter van. Joe and Mike had it test driven and fluid analyzed. They explained that the transmission was OK and that there were numerous engine codes that needed to be deciphered by a dealer.

I took my 1966 Mustang in as it was leaking transmission fluid and slipping between 1st and 2nd gear. They called me a couple of hours later to report that the issue was I had overfilled the transmission fluid. They cleaned it up and test drove the car and gave it back to me at no charge. Joe the owner even came out and talked to me about my car. I will certainly recommend them to my other classic car friends.

I am very happy to find this gem of a business in Orangevale. My friend's transmission felt like it was slipping. We took it over to have it repaired. The mechanic did an assessment and within a hour or so, we received a call to come pick it up, they could not find anything wrong with the transmission. There was no charges for their time or services. The staff was extremely pleasant and professional. I will keep this business in mind if I ever have a transmission issues and would recommend it to all in and around the area.

I took my car into California Transmissions of Orangevale because I thought my transmission was acting up. I was told that i could leave the car and they would perform some diagnostic tests on it and would call me the next day. To my surprise, I was told that they could find absolutely nothing wrong with my car's transmission and to come pick it up at my convenience. And to top it off ... there was no charge! Honest. Genuine. Credible. Patient. Just a few words that describe this business. Took my car in to have the transmission looked at and sure enough it was not acting up for them as it does for me. They kept it a few hours and had us come on down to drive it with the mechanic. Sure enough, it would not act up for them. Gave us two options and we took the second one. We took our car home and was told to document it every time it acted up and at what time of the day. Pam in the office was very kind and personable and Joe the owner was as well. I would highly recommend this business for your transmission needs or in my case, my NON transmission needs. Will bring it back if it acts up again 100%.

Awesome Shop. I was referred to them by a Fleet mechanic that I use for our work trucks. Can't say enough great things about office staff, and technicians. They had our F550 flatbed in, diagnosed, repaired, and back in service within 24 hours of us dropping it off. For a small company like us that is huge. The price was totally fair and they only sold us what we needed. Did not try to upsell us on anything. The communication was excellent. I am bringing my personal vehicles back and would refer them to anyone.

Super happy with the work done on our 97 Ford F250. We were having shifting issues and Joe identified the peddle assembly as the culprit. Joe found a new OEM part and got it installed right away. Truck shifts like a dream now! Wonderful. Great people at this shop and based on our experience you can trust them.

Victoria and the guys at the shop are very honest and helpful unlike many other shops nowadays, I missed my initial appointment without even contacting them and letting them because it slipped my mind...they still took my classic car in and diagnosed the transmission and found that the issue was very very simple to fix but was causing me major shifting problems, so they fixed and charged me NOTHING! +++They also kept my car for me overnight inside because I wasn't able to make it on time to pick it up. I recommend this shop to everyone no matter if you own OLD car NEW car ANY car they'll take care of you properly.

My transmission started slipping so I called Victoria @ California transmission explained what I was experiencing and she explained two possibilities and what price point for each or possibly both. Victoria was able to get me in that afternoon and to my surprise my car was diagnosed by 9am and finished by noon the next day at the lower price. Brought my 2005 nissan titan in to have the transmission looked at. I was already expecting the worst because my year truck is notorious for transmission problem between 150000 and 200000 miles, I'm right at 150000. Dropped it of and a few hours later they called to inform me it was very low on transmission fluid and they found a leak, which is also common for my year truck. I want charged and was told to keep an eye on the fluid level and to come back in if the level drops. They didn't try to sale me on repairs I didn't need and was 100% percent honest about everything. Will be taking my truck back when it eventually needs to be repaired

Outstanding service! Took my El Camino in for a transmission rebuild and they had me in and out in no time at all! Joe and his team went above and beyond to help me diagnose and fix any issues. Long story short I apparently had a broken motor mount that i was unaware of that kept twisting the drive train which caused the new transmission to leak and was messing up their work but Joe and his team went above and beyond to go out of their way to fix it when they didn't have to. Jack and his team did a thorough examination of my leaking transmission and evaluated a small problem which they fixed same morning. In at 7am and home with my Ford F-150 by lunchtime! I highly recommend this honest, professional company.

Local, personal service, I was having transmission trouble and brought it in for a free inspection, they took my car in within a day or two when they had their next opening for an inspection (even though they were super full with rebuilds) and got it back to me the next day. Turns out my fluid was low which was causing issues. They filled it up with no charge out the door

I thought my clutch went out on my truck so I called California Transmissions. They were extremely helpful over the phone and even though they didn't have any available appointments they kindly accepted my vehicle anyways. Turns out a bearing inside my transmission exploded doing some pretty extensive damage. This review is a little overdue but all I can say is I highly recommended bringing your car here for repairs. My car started having issues a little before COVID-19 hit and I was fortunate enough that I didn't have to immediately get it fixed. But they provided me with a quote that they still honored when I got it fixed a few months after. The whole process was smooth and flawless. They did exactly what they said they would and they even did extra. My car is up and running like it is brand new! Being stuck in the house since the virus hit I was able to finally take my car on a drive to the Bay and my once dragging to get up the hill car was flying over them since they fixed it! They are so sweet and very informative on all issues with your transmission and the price is definitely lower than most!

I brought my truck to them after another shop said that I had a possible short in my transmission harness. They spent a few days tracing down the short which ended up being in the main harness an area where they don't work on. They referenced another shop to do the work and didn't charge me anything.

My 1991 Honda Civic required a hard to get rebuilt transmission back in June 2017. Abe took care of all of the repairs at a reasonable price. When problems developed in January 2019 he resolved the issues under warranty. Some defective used parts eventually caused a recurrence of the problems in January 2020 (slightly beyond the original warranty period) and Abe fixed it again and still covered it under warranty. He stood by his work and made it good. He provides outstanding customer service and goes the extra mile to be fair to his customers.

Talk about thorough, Abe & crew are exactly that. Our Jeep Liberty was acting like it needed a new transmission. Started her up but after 5 minutes she was shuttering down the road!! Panic in Sactown! Living on a retirement fixed income the $$ for a new tranny would hurt. They kept her 2 days, inspecting & found she was getting her battery drained nightly for unknown reasons, but the transmission was FINE!! Whoo hoo!! More, they didn't charge us a penny dispite multiple exams & test drives. Whoohoo squared. Mysteriously the problem has stopped. We have since had the electrical system checked out at Firestone Citrus Heights (whom we already have given a Yelp review). No problems found. The car Gods have done it again, car problem but NOT when you take the car in. Hopefully it is healed.

My gear shift was not setting properly into park and ultimately I was unable to start my 1997 expedition without putting it into neutral. California Transmissions performed a diagnostic check for no charge and determined the cause to be some loose nuts/bolts and they got me up and running for NO COST!! How awesome is that?! Took it to California Transmissions and they put my fears to rest, explained everything in detail. Got a fluid change and everything looked great, got back to Chicago and still running great. Honesty. The honesty this shop holds is amazing. My transmission is basically out, and so my car is in non commission. He got right to the point and let me know what was going on. When I save up enough money I am definitely coming back and having them repair it since he can tell me what's going on with it and being honest, and not trying to charge me something that has nothing to do with the problem. I recently had an exceptionally good experience with California Transmissions. I was referred by a local Auto Repair shop and was told they were straight forward, honest and reasonable. All of which is true. I was prepared to replace my transmission, however the folks at California Transmissions were able to diagnose the problem and explain exactly what the issue was. It turned out to be a much smaller mechanical problem which saved me a substantial expense. I felt all along in the process that they were looking out for my best interest as a customer. I Trust and highly recommend their services. Abe and the folks at California Transmissions did great work, my 65 Cobra is back on the road and shifts better than it ever did.

The best place in the world to bring your transmission in need!!! The best people, best service, and best price! I am the original owner of a 2005 dodge ram 2500 with the cummins and 6 speed manual transmission. It was time for a new clutch. This is the only shop in 205,000 miles i have paid to do any work on this vehicle. I always do my all my own repairs and service, but couldn't get to the clutch this time because I'm between houses and need my truck to move... I called the local dealer who quoted me $5,500, and actually misdiagnosed the type of clutch even though I gave them the VIN number... all other local shops ranged from $2000 to $3500. Thank God I found California transmission! They quoted me $1200, and I was out the door a few days later for $1200. Spot on quote, spot on completion time, excellent communication, great customer service. Thank you Abe, and everyone else who works there! The clutch didn't feel this good and operate this smooth the day I drove it off the lot.

Seriously the best possible place you can bring your vehicle. In my 20 years of driving takin my car/truck/van to shops, I've never had a more positive experience or had a trustworthy place I can count on. and so when I found this place, I was celebrating. And so was my family after I told them about it. The first time there was for a shifting problem in my old Chevy truck. When I picked up the truck they had diagnosed the problem and found something had come disconnected. They simply reconnected it and told me it was ready for pick up. When I got there, handed me keys and said to have a good day "you don't owe us anything." I was like what!? Am I being filmed?? And I drove away, not a penny spent with a working transmission. My whole family was in disbelief. There was no "minimum hour labor to look at it"? They got a customer for life for that, and now my whole family and friends know to go to California transmissions. Down the line I had a problem with my new truck when it wouldn't engage into 4wd. You KNOW where I brought it. That's right. California transmissions. They diagnosed the problem AGAIN FOR FREE. So this wasn't just a fluke, and they found an issue in the hubs that they recommended I go to their friends shop, once again I drove out of there without a penny spent and knowing EXACTLY what was wrong with my vehicle. And even feeling good about the next place (which I haven't gone to yet) because CA transmissions recommended it. And they've got my trust now. These two experiences prompted me to tell them, I had to share with everyone! Don't waste your time and money anywhere else! These guys are my kinda people too. Level headed, down to earth people. They listen, and give a sense of genuine caring. I never felt stupid, I never was interrupted. I vote them business of the year.

Was referred to California Transmissions because my '97 Ford F-350 was doing some weird stuff after I installed a new torque converter. They diagnosed the trouble for free, told me trouble was in the valve body. Recommended a new valve body & shift Kit. Installed it quickly and even re-used my brand new synthetic transmission fluid to save me some bucks;). Really good work and got it done quickly!!! Will be back next time I need transmission work;)

Well, I do detect a theme after browsing through some of the other comments. I was referred to Abe's shop by my usual Folsom auto repair shop. I had been experiencing a vibration when the car was under load; a steep incline usually brought it out. I was convinced it was the transmission. Long story short, I left my car with Abe for a couple days at his request as his initial road tests, 2 of them, hadn't duplicated the problem. After I described the situations where the vibration usually occurred he had road test number three and was able to see what I was talking about. Turns out it's likely not the transmission but some sort of engine management problem. I knew that Abe had some hours of shop time in this deal. When I asked him the scary question, " How much do I owe you" he said It was all part of their free diagnostic service. Wow. I appreciated the honesty about the transmission but I expected to pay some shop time.. Thanks Abe. It's good to know there are still people that are fair and honest.... Mark K

I went there to get my transmission diagnosed and possibly fixed. The people there were very friendly and helpful. I left my car with them for only I think 2 or 3 hours and they managed to diagnose it in that time. Unfortunately it needed service I couldn't afford, but they were perfectly OK with it. They even refused tip when I offered. From now on, when I need transmission services I CAN afford, I'm going to them.

Had an auto mechanic tell me the problem I was experiencing was transmission related. California Transmission had my car for two days and was unable to duplicate the problem. I'm not sure if the problem went away but I know they didn't charge me a dime for the time they spent trying to duplicate the problem. Would recommend them to my friends because I know they are honest!
